Why a Motivational Speaker Won't Solve Your Organization's Issues
Thinking about dropping $50K on a motivational speaker? Read this first…
I LOVE a good motivational speaker.
If they’re any good, and I’ve seen some good ones (Simon Sinek, Brene Brown, John Maxwell etc.) they typically:
Have a fantastic delivery
Inspire me
Teach me something new
And at the moment, they motivate me to act.
To do something different than I’ve done before.
And then, as the days go by, without even realizing it, that motivation slowly evaporates.
Just like anyone else, I fall back into the same old habits.
In all reality, the “motivational speaker” does motivate people to change their behavior.
In the moment.
The challenge is - that motivation doesn’t live on.
It doesn’t last.
Why?
Changing behavior will NOT be achieved in one afternoon.
A motivational speaker will NOT be a silver bullet in transforming your organization.
They lack:
-Accountability
-Follow-up
-Action
-Real Impact
That is your role. As leader.
Before you make that investment, ensure your leaders are willing to make the additional investment to make it worth it.
