How to Learn Leadership Lessons From Failure
What makes one CEO/Executive more successful than another?
They are willing to 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥
They are 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 to:
* Say the wrong thing
* Do the wrong thing
* Take risks
* Push boundaries
* Follow their gut
* Try new things
* Innovate
They also are willing to:
* Take 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲
* 𝐀𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐳𝐞
* Share what they 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝
* AND 𝐧𝐨𝐭 make the same mistake twice
So why aren’t more leaders willing to fail? Simple. Fear. Fear of:
Looking foolish, not being good enough or not having the wherewithal to get it done. Being ridiculed, criticized, outshined by someone else or worst of all, being pushed out of the organization.
The problem is our ego grabs a hold of them so tight, they fail to see the possibilities that exist by going outside the norm.
And the reality is there is gold in every failure. You’re able to:
*** Take away key 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 that serve as data points that they can use to enhance their organization moving forward.
*** Build 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲
*** Increase 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
*** Have 𝐟𝐮𝐧
*** Achieve 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬
When you are willing to push past your fear and get comfortable being uncomfortable, the possibilities for your organization are endless.
As William Whewell said: “Every failure is a step to success.”
